‘Dead Mams and Glue Sticks’ is a craft club for women who lost their mothers too soon.

This series of workshops was informed by my MA Illustration Major Project in which the brief was to centre the project within a specific community.

I aimed to build and foster a community where women could come together and talk about their loss and grief with others who understood.

It is common for bereavement to feel isolating and lonely on so many levels, especially at a young age when others may not have experienced it and aren’t sure how to talk about it or support each other.

The activities and workshops were designed to promote conversation but also allow the group dynamic to shift dependant on the participants and whether they were comfortable speaking or if they would prefer to just be present and craft.

The project was awarded The University of the Arts London CCW Intent Award in 2026 for the Community Category.
